As we head into the fall, many parents like me are thinking about our family’s health during flu season in the midst of an airborne pandemic. As a parent of a child who survived cancer, I learned how important clean air is for children’s health. This is why I fight so hard for air pollution protections for children. Enter Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposal to link Pennsylvania to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative or RGGI, a cap-and-invest program that would substantially cut our state’s massive carbon pollution from the electric power sector (Oct. 1 editorial, “When Pollution is No Longer Free”). Pennsylvania emits nearly 80 million tons of climate-warming carbon pollution from power plants annually, or more than the 10 RGGI states combined. Read more…
